My idea of necessities

Holyyyyyyy heckkkkkkkkk.  Today was leg day.  That is all.  I haven’t had a day dedicated solely to legs in a long time and I asked myself if James Wilson was secretly trying to kill me during this morning’s workout.  Everything was burning and I wanted to die.  I didn’t even get to the ab portion of the workout because I ran out of time but I can just make up for that tonight, maybe by doing another FitnessGlo ab routine.

My butt and legs are the hardest parts of my body for me to develop.  I have always had super skinny arms and a tiny back so having muscle show in those spots is a bit easier.  My lower half is a different story though…  I am really learning a lot about how my body responds to different exercises on this program.  It’s the food part I’m still trying to nail (aka trying not to eat chocolate every day)…but it’s all trial and error.  Different things work for different bodies and it just takes time to figure it out!

The following is most likely not James Wilson-approved but as I went to do a small grocery run last night and…well, I couldn’t help myself.

PB Cheerios

Completely necessary in everyone’s cupboards.  I haven’t tried them yet and I am completely terrified they will turn me into a Cheerios addict.  Mind you, there are worse things.  But still.  I also don’t like the “limited time only” on the box.  It creates anxiety, don’t you think??  So if I like them, does it mean I have to go buy 30 more boxes in case I never see them again?  Very rude marketing if you ask me.

My intention was just to grab a big box of spinach (also a necessity) because I ran out and I feel like I can’t make my smoothies without it.  They just aren’t the same.  Zevia was also on sale (6 for $3) and though I’m not huge on pop (or any carbonated drinks), sometimes I have a craving for root beer or coke.  No, Zevia is not as good as the real thing but it has 0 calories and is sweetened with stevia so no sugar shakes (like I had on the weekend).  I also threw some rice cakes in there for good measure.  Who doesn’t love a good slice of cardboard?  Hah.  No I actually really enjoy rice cakes, believe it or not.  You just have to get creative and top them with really flavourful things.

So basically I’m good for the rest of the week because I am stocked with Cheerios, spinach, and rice cakes.

What are some of the items you always have in the house? – I need to have bananas, oats, Ezekiel bread, peanut butter, and almond milk.  I don’t think I can live without any of those things.

Favourite cereal?? – I can go on forever with this one but I’ll narrow it down to Raisin Bran, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and most recently PEANUT BUTTER TOAST CRUNCH.

sneaky spinach and sneaky Santas

I have a confession to make.  I don’t love vegetables.  I know you’re all shaking your heads right now but I have a really hard time eating them.  I still eat them throughout the day but it is definitely not enjoyable.  I eat them more because I know I should.  I can do raw carrots, cucumber and celery, grilled asparagus and potatoes.  That’s about it.

A while back when I first started reading blogs, I came across Angela’s amazing website, Oh She Glows.  She made these weird green drinks called Green Monsters and I really didn’t get it.  Why would anyone want to drink vegetables??  Weird.  I don’t know what got into me but I decided to try it one day with spinach and guess what?  You cannot even taste it!!!  When you have fruit and protein powders in the mix, the spinach is practically non existent.  Since then, spinach and I have learned to get along just fine 😀

handful of spinach, 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 a frozen banana, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, & stevia to taste

Bam.  Perfect post-workout sweet green treat!

Now onto more important things: sneaky Santas.  I know it sounds weird but I fall in love with the people I have met through blogging more and more each day.  I have formed some really great relationships with people on the other side of the country, continent, and world.  People with big hearts, full of generosity and kind words.

I received two packages in the mail today.  One was a Christmas card from Kara who is also the woman behind Chickbands.  I know I have talked about these bands a lot on my blog but they are honestly the best headbands around.  I reviewed them a while back and Kara and I have kept in touch ever since.  She even held a two-week promotion to help me raise money for the bike ride I am doing in June.  I mentioned that I was going to order a red band for the ride (it is for the Heart and Stroke Foundation so I thought red would be perfect) and Kara beat me to it.  Along with the Christmas card photographing her beautiful two girls was a red sparkly Chickband.

Just in case you are interested, Kara’s promo is still on (she decided to continue it even after the two week were over!).  Buy two Chickbands ($15) and get a red one free 😀  It’s called the Athletarian Combo and can be found here.  I recommend the sparkly ones…I now have six of them!!  Mildly obsessed.

I also received my winnings from Beth’s giveaway!  I got a sweet pair of running socks (always need socks!) and she also threw in Larabars!

I love Larabars.  They are one of my favourite go-to healthy snacks full of all-natural ingredients and packed with good calories and fat.  She sent me some flavours I have never seen before and I am super excited to try them!  Thanks, Beth!

Such unexpected surprises!  Thank you sneaky ladies, from the bottom of my heart!

I am so blessed to have all of you readers, blog friends, Facebook followers and Twitter peeps in my life!  Forgive me for the series of extremely awkward photos 😛

How do you feel about veggies?  Do you have to “sneak” them into other foods like me??

What is the BEST surprise you have gotten?

better late than never.

Today I thought it might be a good idea to do my first WIAW.  I still don’t know how I feel about it!  I want to eat my food as soon as it’s ready and I really am not that great at photographing anything!  I don’t really think people would be that curious about what I eat but hey, who knows!  I read everyone’s WIAW so maybe they’ll read mine too??  I don’t really consider myself to be a food blogger (my food is relatively boring and super easy to make) but I hope you are still able to enjoy this post!

I think the first thing I’m supposed to do is credit Jenn from Peas and Crayons who makes her food look way more delicious than mine!

 Thank you, Jenn!

I would just like to note that the tofu and cheddar sandwich that I had for lunch was so ridiculously good.  Meg introduced me to this amazing smoked tofu not too long ago and I’ve eaten it a few times since.  The combination of the smokiness and the sharp white cheddar cheese I used was out of this world.  Plus it was grilled to perfection.  YUM.

I had the Greek yogurt concoction post-workout and it hit the spot.  Grow, muscles, grow!

How do you feel about WIAW?  Should this be my first and last ever attempt?

What’s the best thing you ate (yesterday or today)?  I know it’s Thanksgiving for most of you so I’m pretty sure you’ve got some good eats hanging around!
