Yesterday was a fantastic day. I got to work at the CLIF tent at the Ride for Heart. Last year I participated as a VIP and had a lot of fun even though I only rode my brand new bike two times before race day. Do not attempt that. This year I decided not to ride but working the event was just as amazing. It was fun to see all of the riders and hear their stories. The day started super early (4:15 WAKE UP CALL ON A SUNDAY) and I went to pick up Krysten and can’t understand how she can look like a supermodel that early in the morning.
We got lost trying to find our way but that’s not important so we won’t get into details. We parked the car and got lost again trying to find our tent. Apparently we are both directionally impaired but at least we have fun trying to find our way around. As soon as we found our location we got to work right away and started chopping CLIF bars to feed the 20,000+ riders that would be coming through.
It was cold. And rainy. Thankfully we were covered so we didn’t get wet but there were a lot of riders who finished and looked so uncomfortable. I wish I had a stash of towels and blankets to give out! We met some firemen, some racing teams, and a lot of individual riders who had their pockets stashed with CLIF products for the ride. It was awesome to see!
I also finally got to meet my friend Will who I was introduced to while raising money for last year’s ride. He’s got an amazing personal story about why he rides here. He’s a cardiac arrest survivor and lives his life with so much love, thankfulness, and positivity. He dances with his shirt off in the morning (he posted a video of himself on Facebook yesterday as proof) and he’s going to kill me for telling you that. #SorryWill
Then Michelle Clarke showed up near the end. This girl is a riot and also a little bit crazy. She set up the CLIF tent Saturday night, woke up Sunday morning to work another event, then she raced a 15K, and then came back to us to help clean up. If that’s not love and dedication (to both running and work), I don’t know what is! She rocks. And she’s going to have me on a marathon training plan soon which I am terrified for. There will be no messing around because she checks in weekly so I have no choice but to do all of the work she has outlined for me.
You will never guess what happened next. Remember how I told you about that lady who brought her enormous glass blender to the gym to make her post-workout smoothie? SHE SHOWED UP AT OUR TENT!! No joke. Just as we were shutting down she came and asked for samples. I nearly died. What are the chances I would see this woman amidst thousands of people at an event on the opposite side of the city from where we work out? So bizarre.
I didn’t get a long run in this weekend but it’s okay. I spent my time doing other amazing things like eating pizza and working. I am thankful and happy.
What time do you wake up on the weekends?
Do you bike?
