It’s almost over!!

It seems like just yesterday that we started the One Month No Sweets Challenge from WeightTraining.com.  My month ends this Saturday, just in time for Easter!  I really enjoyed challenging myself over the last few weeks and would like to start up another challenge after the holiday is over.  I still have to overdose on chocolate, remember?!

This was a pillow...but if anyone knows where to find PB cups this big please let me know asap ;)

The one thing I do regret about the challenge is my lack of updates on the blog.  I mentioned it on occasion but I feel as though a weekly update of some sort would have helped some people stay on track or share their thoughts/feelings.  That’s what The Athletarian group was for on WeightTraining.com but I don’t think a lot of people utilized it.  You can still join the group now though!  I am a bit behind on logging my workouts but I have them all written down so that I can enter them in.

If I can suggest one thing, I would say get yourself familiar with WeightTraining.com – log your workouts, start a challenge, join a group, etc.  There is going to be a giveaway on my blog in the very near future and it will be open to those who are members of the WeightTraining.com website.  It’s going to be a good one!  I wish I could enter! :)

What is your favourite chocolate or candy?!

Do you plan “cheat”/guilt-free meals?

The best part of yesterday’s run and an update

Yesterday while running I was watching CP24 (the news channel).  I know it’s not the most exciting thing in the world but you tell me what else is on at 5am.  I also listen to music at the same time so I like to watch a channel that I can read.  Make sense??  Anyway, some really interesting news popped up that made me very happy:

I don’t know how they go about these silly studies but I would like to take part in the next one.  That’s all I have to say about that.  It took a lot of willpower and convincing to not have chocolate for breakfast after reading such breaking news!  Instead I had some vegan pancakes (I used this recipe) with sugar-free syrup.

Speaking of chocolate, I have hit week 3 of the No Sweets Challenge.  It’s so crazy to believe that it’s almost over.  Easter is quickly approaching.  Do I plan on eating my weight in Mini Eggs?  Probably.  I will try not to, but no guarantees over here.  They are my ultimate weakness and I am not ashamed to admit it!

Regarding the challenge, I know a lot of you joined and I would love to know how you are doing.  Did the cravings subside for you after the first week or so?  Leave me a comment telling me how you are doing/feeling!

If you had to choose between coffee, alcoholic beverages, or chocolate, which would it be?!

I don’t drink coffee or alcohol so I think you all know my answer ;)

‘No Sweets Challenge’ Update!

Okay, I am so excited at the number of you interested in this challenge.  When I posted yesterday there were three competitors.  Today there are 48!!!!  This is awesome.  First and foremost, I want to mention that Tyler (from WeightTraining.com) created a group for us which has a discussion board where we can all chat about our experience and support each other.  If you haven’t joined yet, just click here and then hit “join group”.  We need as many supporters as we can get!

Now I just want to answer a few questions I have been getting…

I know I can’t eat sugar, but can I still drink wine/alcohol?

I have never been a drinker.  I hate the taste of all forms of alcohol.  I know it’s not considered a “sweet” but I wouldn’t recommend drinking it.  If you cut out all treats and then substitute them with glasses of wine, you probably won’t get the results you want or the same satisfaction of completing this challenge.

Well chips aren’t sweet so I can still eat those, right?

Technically, yes.  Once again though, I wouldn’t substitute salty junk for sweet junk this month for the same reasons as I stated above.  How good do you think you will feel if you stuff your face with Doritos?  Just don’t do it.  Don’t buy chips.  If you have a hankering for something salty, make kale chips.

Can I still eat fruit jam?

This is where you have to check the ingredients.  Naturally occurring sugars from fruits are okay.  If you see any forms of sugar in the ingredient list, nix the jam and make your own with fresh fruit.

What classifies as sugar?

Just because it doesn’t say “sugar” in the ingredients, there are still other terms you should look out for: brown rice syrup, evaporated cane juice, cane sugar, sucanat, corn syrup, etc.  I will still be using plant-based sweeteners such as stevia.  It has no calories and does not have the same terrible effect on your blood glucose that sugar does.

If you have any other questions, let me know!  I can address them in my next post!

If you haven’t joined us yet, it isn’t too late!!  Check out yesterday’s post for the details and get on board!

We are one full day down, 29 left to go!  I don’t know about you, but I feel like a million bucks already! ;)

I challenge YOU!

Tyler from WeightTraining.com contacted me not too long ago requesting some information on my choice of protein powders.  We exchanged emails over a couple of days talking about powders vs. whole foods and all kinds of fun stuff.  He offered to send me a WeightTraining.com t-shirt in return and I think it’s pretty cool ;)

Right before this morning's workout :D

Shortly after, he tweeted me a link to the “1 Month No Sweets Challenge” on the WeightTraining.com website.  I looked into it and as terrifying as it sounds, I convinced myself to sign up…

You can read all about the details here.  Basically it is a month with no sweets and if you “cheat”, you must start the 30 days over again.  If you complete the challenge, you are just in time for Easter, and I grant you permission to eat a Costco-sized bag of Mini Eggs.  I told Tyler that was my plan and he was not impressed.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TASTE SO GOOD?!

On a more serious note, you will most likely feel better about yourself, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you were able to complete a goal, and it will prove that sweets are not really necessary in your diet.

I already talked about March being “no junk month” for me but I signed up as a way to hold myself accountable.  Now I am challenging YOU to sign up too (it only takes about 30 seconds).  We can give each other high fives and get a little discussion going (aka talk about the first candy we’re going to rip open when the challenge is over).

Sound good?

Probably not, but I’m doing it anyway!  Let me know if you are in!

PS – it already says I “conquered” the challenge because I clicked “completed” by accident…  Don’t mind that!  I started yesterday, March 7th, and will go until April 7th (I hope)!
