Today is a GOOD Monday. Yes, I definitely miss the weekend and like usual, could have used an extra day but this is also my last week of work so I’m pretty thrilled about that. I woke up really tired because the weekend was somewhat busy (but the good kind of busy full of fun things and the best people).
On Saturday, we attempted going on a bike ride and I fell within the first five minutes so I decided I needed more time to get the hang of clipping in/out of my pedals and headed back to the bike path. I was initially frustrated with myself but I know this is my own fault. I haven’t been consistent and I’m not going to improve if I don’t keep at it. The plan is to get on my bike a couple times a week, even if it’s just riding up and down the bike path. I want to get comfortable on it and have the clipping become second nature. Right now one foot stays clipped in and it takes me a good 5-30 seconds to get the other foot secured.
After my bike fail, we headed over to a bike shop to pick up a kit for the BF and the founder of the cycling club that he he rides with somehow convinced me that I needed one too. I haven’t even registered to be a part of the club but I guess I’ve got the gear for whenever I’m ready to do so!
In the evening we headed over to Danielle and Josh’s for a BBQ. They live about an hour and 15 minutes outside of Toronto and their place feels like a little slice of cottage heaven. They even had a fire going where we got to make s’mores. It was KINDA THE BEST.
Sunday morning was a long ride/run day for us. 114.5 kilometres on the bike for him and a 12 mile (19.2 kilometre) run for me. I don’t know if it was the heat but I was beat by the time I got home. I went to get a much needed pedicure, picked up some food for us from freshii, headed back to the house to eat and then NAPPED. On a Sunday afternoon. Did some cleaning, went back to my place, ordered a pizza (did absolutely zero cooking on the weekend and I don’t even feel bad about it), we watched the documentary Sneakerheads and two episodes of OITNB, picked up a few groceries, I made lunches for today…and that’s it.
…so when I say “busy” it just means I do a lot of fun things that make me tired because I’m old.
I’m really looking forward to this week of work and training (and super happy with how last week went)!
Monday: 4 mile recovery run @ 9:25/mile
Tuesday: 3.79 mile Run for the Oceans with adidas @ 9:27/mile
Wednesday: 8.10 mile fartlek workout @ 8:40/mile -> 2 mile w/up – 2 x 3-2-1 fartlek at Steady State – hmp – 10k pace w/ equal rest to work ratio – c/down remainder.
Equal rest to work means that if you do 3 mins at SS pace then you get 3 mins easy – 2/2 – then 1/1 and start over again.
I was slightly confused when I read that workout too…so here’s what it looked like:
Friday: 4 mile recovery run @ 9:33/mile
Saturday: 5.30 miles of riding back and forth on a bike path
Sunday: 12 mile long run @ 9:25/mile
TOTAL: 31.89 miles running / 5.30 miles riding
This weekend is the Toronto Waterfront 10K and I am equally nervous and excited. I haven’t run a race since the NYC Marathon in November so it’s safe to say it’s been a while. It’s going to be my first fitness test this season (still have to find a 5K) and I’m curious to see how I do. It will also be nice to have some numbers to work with so that I can adjust my workout paces accordingly.
Week #7, I’m ready for you.
