Last Thursday I attended my first #HereToCreate fitness class at Totum Life Science. The facility is beautiful. It’s a smaller, two-level, boutique-style gym located right at King and Spadina. It’s fairly easy to get to. I just took the subway to St. Andrew Station and then walked along King Street (less than 10 minutes).
I was greeted with big smiles, watermelon juice and a personalized locker that I get to use for three months! Pretty sweet.
I went into it not knowing what to expect. I kind of had a feeling that it would be a butt-kicking workout and man, was I right. Julian Ho switches up the workout every week and we launched the program with ATHLETICON.
Not going to lie, I was already tired after the warm-up he put us through. The only equipment needed for the workout was two dumbbells and a sandbag. The rest was allllll bodyweight. Think lots of jump squats, jump lunges, high knees and lateral drills. It was non-stop moving for the most part with a couple of tiny breaks to grab a drink of water/catch your breath/swear at Julian.
I loved that the workout was so high intensity and we switched between exercises really quickly. It kept things really fun and interesting. It was also a nice reminder that my coordination and reaction time are both horrible! By the end of the workout (which was an hour, including the warm-up), I was completely drenched. I expected to get sweaty but not that sweaty. I didn’t even bring a change of clothes to put on after the workout so I had to ride home on the subway looking like a hot mess. Whoops.
I had a really great time and loved the energy of both Julian Ho and all the other girls that came out to sweat. Tomorrow night’s class is already full but you can register for next week’s class first thing tomorrow. It fills up pretty quickly so make sure you check in at HereToCreate.ca and get your name on the list! Oh and just one more reminder – it’s totally free. Just bring yourself…and maybe a change of clothes because you will sweat.
Have an awesome day!
