Good morning and happy Monday! Man, getting up today was rough. I did not want to leave the house this morning. The snow was just way. too. much. Looks like it’s officially the end of mild temperatures and clear roads. To try and boost my mood, I headed down to the gym around 5:30am to get a workout in. I kept it pretty simple with three rounds of:
1 mile run
jump rope x 250
weighted jump squats x 15
kettlebell swings x 15
It did the trick and I’m good to go for the rest of the day -> remind me that I said this while I’m in fourth period and falling asleep in front of my students.
Anyway, I had a pretty fabulous weekend and it was just what I needed. There’s no doubt that it’s harder to get out and run when it’s cold out. Some people love it…but I am not one of those people. I have been struggling more than usual and really needed something to get me out of my rut. Heather and Jonathan organized a group trail run on Saturday and although I was a bit hesitant to dive into 16+ kilometres (longest I’ve run since NYC was 10km prior to last weekend), I decided to give it a go.
I loved seeing so many friends and runners that I haven’t seen in a long time. Chatting it up while trekking through the trail made the kilometres fly by. It was about an 8.5km loop so those who wanted to do two loops started at 9am and then if there was anyone that wanted to run one loop, we picked them up for round two. It was SO GOOD.
The hills were not good. Hah. Jonathan clearly thought otherwise.
Was it cold? Yes! But I barely even noticed because I was having too much fun. Jess practically stayed with me from start to finish because we are in love with each other and like to talk about all the things. She is such a beast and badass so I really love hearing all about her training and her life.
Selfie time with Mr. Andrew Chak:
One of the best parts about this run is that Heather asked everyone to bring a non perishable item to donate to a food drive. We collected so much! It felt amazing to do something good while also doing something that we love – running!
We headed to The Black Dog for brunch/lunch afterwards and I ordered a pesto pasta…
…and then it was home time. I am so grateful for the running community and all of the support runners give one another. It felt so good to get out there with some super inspiring people. They push you and encourage you to get out there, especially when motivation is at an all time low. I hope we don’t go too long without another one of these runs!
Once I got home, it was time to get ready for Danielle’s Holiday Party. Actually, it was called Brewdolph & The Reinbeers Live on Ice. The best. It was a great time and a perfect way to end an already amazing day! For some reason, I only have photos of the food and dogs that were at the party sooo this is as good as it gets:
I also had a mani/pedi + shopping + dinner days with my mom this weekend, found a little Christmas tree for my place, bought a million decorations for it (The Bay is having 50% off!), did some food prep, and got to see my mom (again!) and aunt last night. ‘Twas a good weekend. Hope you all did something that made your heart happy too!
