Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge grazer. I do love my big meals but if it were up to me, I’d just snack all day. I love having things like nuts, fruit, popcorn, protein bars/balls, raw veggies, and let’s be honest…sometimes chocolate and cookies on hand. Most of the time I try to reach for the healthier options but I think we all have those days where we just need a cookie (or two or three) to make it through the workday, AM I RIGHT?
PRANA reached out to me a little while ago asking if I wanted to give some of their products a try. I had heard about them and seen their little bags of yumminess at the grocery store, but didn’t know much about the brand until now. All of their products are certified organic, vegan, kosher, preservative-free, and sulphite-free. Their trail mixes jumped out at me and I was lucky enough to receive two different varieties.
The Kilimanjaro – Deluxe Chocolate Mix was my favourite, for obvious reasons. I’m not the biggest fan of dark chocolate but in this particular trail mix, the bitterness was balanced nicely with the sweetness of the raisins and cranberries. The cashews (my favourite nut), almonds and walnuts make it a substantial trail mix with added protein and healthy fats. This mix is perfect to just stash in your bag and eat on the go. After a lot of my workouts, I’m rushing to get out the door and prefer to have something I can take with me/hold me over until I eat an actual meal.
I also got to try the Machu Pichu – Nut and Fruit Mix and it was also really good. This one has Organic almonds, raisins, pumpkin seeds, mulberries, Brazil nuts, goji berries, and golden berries. The nuts and berries are a great source of iron, protein, antioxidants, omega 3s, vitamins A, C, and B12. It’s amazing as is but I liked it even more as a smoothie bowl topping (along with frozen cherries and unsweetened coconut)!
Last but not least, the oh-so-addictive Maple Almonds! It was really, really hard not to eat the entire bag in one sitting. With the only ingredients being Organic almonds, maple syrup and unrefined Algarve sea salt, these are the perfect sweet and crunchy nut to add to any dish. I really liked just eating them out of the bag (let’s be honest) but they were also yummy chopped on my morning oats and as a salad topping.
Huge thanks to Prana for the opportunity to try such delicious products! Prana is available in all major chains (Costco, Loblaws, Metro, Winners) and pharmacies as well as natural food stores and online.
Oh, and here’s a handy little plant-based protein chart that I downloaded off the website. You can click to enlarge (and save) or download your own HERE!
