So as I typed the title of this post, I had to go back into my calendar to count how many weeks I have until Chicago aaaaand….it’s now 22 weeks away. I have never trained for a marathon for this long. Usually my plans are about 16-18 weeks but because I’m practically starting from square one again, I don’t mind the extra little bit of time I’m taking to build myself up for this race (<- remind me that I said this when I start complaining in week 20 😉 ).
Anyway, last week was all about easy runs. Right now we are just starting light and will be adding some mileage in slowly as the weeks progress. No real “workouts” just yet. My runs are actually not that far off from what I would be doing on my own but having a coach makes it easier to commit and prevents me from making excuses (like on Friday when I would have rather curled up in bed instead of running 4 miles in torrential downpour).
Monday: 4 mile recovery run @ 9:13 min/mile
Wednesday: 5 mile easy run @ 9:03 min/mile
Friday: 4 mile recovery run @ 8:35 min/mile (I guess the rain makes you run a little faster!)
Total: 21 miles / 33 kilometres
Going forward, I will probably try and add some kind of cross training on one or two of my rest days, most likely at a spin class or even just on the elliptical at the gym in my building.
NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT THE WEEKEND! It was a huge day for a lot of my people here in Toronto. I headed to a workout in the morning and the first thing I though when I stepped outside was “Man, I feel sorry for all the runners who are racing today. It is so COLD and WINDY.” Then I stalked everyone on Instagram when I got home and so many of you set new PRs! The weather clearly was no big deal for all you rockstars!
A few of my friends who I’m super proud of and have busted their asses for MONTHS:
Jonathan is heading to Boston with a new PR and BQ (3:11:27)
Steph ran a 7-minute PR (3:24:44)
Katelin ran a BQ and 54-minute PR (3:33:30)
Hard work pays off! I’m feeling inspired and can’t wait to put in some serious work over the next few months.
HUUUUGE congrats to all of you who raced over the weekend!!!
