Today’s post is actually inspired by Julia, a reader who left a really sweet comment on my blog yesterday. I’ve been meaning to write a post like this for a while but haven’t had the time…so here I am now!
It was nice to read that there is some appreciation when it comes to sponsored posts. As a blogger it’s always hard to gage whether or not readers would like to know about a particular brand or company. I, personally, only agree to work on campaigns and projects that I believe are a good fit for both me and my blog. That’s why it always seems like I’m writing about things that I love…because I genuinely do. I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities I have received over the past few years. Never in a million years did I ever think that I would be in this position. I am blessed with some pretty great experiences, meet fabulous people and get to try out really awesome products. All because I blog. It’s pretty great and not a day goes by that I don’t thank my lucky stars.
I don’t make a living off blogging alone. As some of you already know, I also teach during the day. As a result, I haven’t had the time to blog as much as I’ve wanted over the last few months. With all of the projects that I’m working on, it has felt as though sponsored content has taken a front seat because of my social obligations and deadlines. As much as I enjoy working on these projects, I do miss connecting and sharing on a more personal level. I’m hoping that I can get back to that now that I am off for the summer and have a little more time on my hands!
I think a lot of people assume that blogging = whipping up a post in half an hour, uploading some photos and then BAM. It’s really not like that. It takes a lot of time to put things together, especially when it comes to sponsored posts. There are a lot of fine details in contracts on what to include and I’m always going back and forth to make sure I don’t miss anything. Photography is another thing! I’m lucky that I have some people to help me out these days but I used to take all of my photos myself (shout out to self timers). I am SO PICKY. I like to present things in ways that look visually appealing, even if it means taking 400 photos of the exact same thing.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that blogging takes time. When I’m working during the school year and then have to come home, photograph, write, edit, etc…it can sometimes feel like I’m working double days. Working two jobs that I LOVE, but still working. I know I don’t have to explain myself but I have kind of been feeling like one day I’m talking about ‘X’ and then two days later I’m telling you guys all about ‘Y’…without much else in between. I want you to know me, not just the things that I love to wear/eat/drink. Am I even making sense right now?? I hope so!
Anyway, thank you so much for reading my rambles. I appreciate you!
Princeton and I hope you have a really great day!
