Yikes. I cannot believe Marathon week is here. Just six short days until I tackle 26.2 again. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared but I know that I will have a wonderful time while I’m in Vancouver with a lot of amazing support. To celebrate taper week I have an awesome giveaway for you! Who doesn’t love giveaways?!
…but first let’s recap last week’s wonderful week of low mileage:
Monday: 3 easy miles @ 9:02 avg. pace + strength
Tuesday: 60 minutes solo spin
Wednesday: 45 minutes stairs (am) + 6.2 mile tempo run @ 7:51 avg. pace
Saturday: 10 miles @ 8:37 avg. pace
I took an extra off day because my legs felt super tired last week for some reason. At this point I’m just trying really hard to listen to my body and give it the rest it needs so I can have fresh, strong legs for the race. Skipping one or two runs leading up to Sunday isn’t going to make or break my marathon performance. My main focus over the next few days is to hydrate and eat well, stretch and foam roll as much as I can, and get in a couple of easy runs if I’m feeling it.
Now onto the giveaway…
Last week Vega generously sent me an assortment of their new bars:
The Vega Snack Bar:
The Vega Snack Bar is a totally new product and personally my new favourite from the entire line. I got two flavours: chocolate peanut butter cup and dark chocolate with nuts and sea salt. Both were unbelievably good, and this is coming from a girl who hates dark chocolate. Since my doctor told me to go dairy-free the only issues I thought I’d have would be with chocolate and pizza. I love both of those things but hate vegan variations. This snack bar definitey help cure that chocolate craving a lot better than I anticipated. Now if Vega could just make a vegan pizza that actually tastes like pizza…. 😉
I actually tried having the snack bar before my long run on Saturday and it worked really well for me. It’s packed with whole foods and only 200 calories so it sat well with me and my finnicky stomach. Plus it offers a decent amount of carbs (21g) to give my body the energy to get going for the first few miles before I took a gel.
The Vega Sport Protein Bar has been reformulated and so far I’ve only had a chance to try the chocolate coconut which was really, really good. The taste and texture has improved tremendously. I cannot wait to try the chocolate mint! It’s a new flavour for Vega (as is the chocolate peanut better). Oh – AND these bars contain 15g of plant-based protein. Win.
I haven’t had a chance to try the Vega One Bar or the Vega Sport Energy Bar because I did attempt to eat some food other than bars this weekend…ha. But those are on my list to try next and I will certainly share my thoughts with you!
I guess it’s time for the good part, right?!
Vega is offering one of my readers FOUR BOXES of their new bars – one box of Vega All-In-One bars, one box of Vega Snack Bars, one box of Vega Sport Energy Bars, and one box of Vega Sport Protein Bars.
Sounds pretty sweet to me!
