That was a little bit risky {& giveaway winner!}

by Christina @ The Athletarian on December 16, 2013

Because of Phaedra’s expert advice I still did my long run yesterday despite not having a day of rest before.  I’m not going to lie…I was afraid.  My legs were a tiny bit sore from Saturday and we got hit with a pretty ugly snowstorm.  I didn’t even give myself time to contemplate the run though.  I just got dressed and went for my first risky run in a long time.

I had 10 miles (16km) to do and it took me a little longer than my last 10-miler.  Not all of the sidewalks were cleared so I had to do a lot of maneuvering and jumping over mini snowbanks.  It was real slippery too so it felt like a combination of running and skating.  People were looking at me like I was freaking nuts.  I didn’t even bother to stop my watch at lights or during the moments where I had to climb.  I knew I wasn’t breaking any records so I didn’t really care.  I just wanted to get home alive.  And I did!!  Yay!

Everything hurt by the time I was done.  I felt like I used every single little muscle in my body to keep myself balanced.  As hard as that run was, I am happy I did it so now I don’t have to try and fit it into my work week.  The rest of my Sunday looked a lot like this:

Almond butter banana sandwich > peanut butter banana sandwich at this point in my life.  I’m really liking the almonds these days.

Totally random: I don’t know if any of you watch Survivor but I certainly did this season and last night my Instagram friend, Kim (who I get to meet in March!), told me I look like Ciera and sent me this last night:

I have also gotten Tina Fey and Anne Hathaway in the past.  I don’t really think I look like any of them but it’s funny how people see things differently.

And now for the Mizuno/Vega giveaway winner…………comment #109 – Chelsea Scott!

Congrats Chelsea!!!!!!  You are going to LOVE everything!!  Please email me at theathletarian [at] gmail [dot] com with your address so we can get your goodies to you ASAP!!!  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!

You all said some really nice things in the comments and I honestly wish I had something for everyone (there may or may not be another giveaway coming tomorrow).  You are so appreciative, excited, looking forward to spending time with your families, having BABIES!, baking and eating delicious things (I accept leftovers, especially of the gingerbread variety), taking time to go RUN and doing other awesome winter activities, going on amazing vacations (I am a really good travel partner if you need one), and so much more.  Thank you all for entering and for wishing me a Happy Holiday as well.  I have two weeks off work and will be spending time with my family, keeping up with training, and eating delicious things.

Did you get to run this weekend?

Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone else??

Do you still have Holiday shopping to do??  I haven’t even started (but I don’t have much to get).

I was able to get two runs in this weekend. Led my running group for a 6 miler on Saturday and then ran a half marathon on Sunday. The half was a lot of run and we had perfect weather for it unlike the day before.

I have been told that I look a lot like Tori Spelling. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. I just wish I had her crafty side down!

Only have a couple of gifts left to buy. I have a lot of nieces and nephews!

Happy Holidays!

I also ran yesterday and it was messy. But I’m glad I did it. Lots of jumping over snowbanks and landing in slush. Kinda felt like I was running the steeplechase, ha ha. I’ve been told I look like Marisa Tomei and Terri Hatcher. I don’t see it.
I have a few things left to get, mainly a gift for the parental units and my bosses. Guess I know what I’m doing tonight. :D

Hearing people say that they love almond butter is music to my peanut-allergy-ridden heart  Knowing that I still have holiday shopping left to do definitely isn’t, though! Gah! I haven’t even started either, but thankfully my gift-giving is pretty minimal this year, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to get it knocked out of the way pretty painlessly.

I ran 18 miles on the Friendmill! I think Runemz sprinkled some running dust on me. :)
I’ve been told I look like…..no celebrity…haha. Whomp whomp, huh! And i’ll be doing my shopping last min… I have to keep the reputation of a man alive somehow.

Someone once told me that I looked like some Olympic skier. That person had obviously never seen me ski!

Shopping = back burner for me. I just need to finish my finals and then get to it! I’m celebrating a little spaced out this year, so I think I’ll be spacing out my shopping a little bit!

You are most definitely a today version Tina Fey look alike (the way she looks now, because a while back she was kind of rough). And way to rock the long run!

I ran as a pacer for the 1:30 group of the Phoenix Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon. Raced a bit fast and came in at 1:26. Good pace practice for the Phoenix Marathon :)

You need to get a bf who can give you a massage! While compression socks and almond butter are great and do the job, there is nothing like a massage. I got one after the race for free and feel like a million bucks.

Enjoy your break. I hope you will continue to blog though

Congrats on pushing yourself! I used to be the same ways when it came to training for my first half here in AZ! I need to start training for PF Changs again since it’s weeks away. And you ran that in the snow?! I could never haha. I am such a whimp. It’s in the 40′s here and I am dressed up like I live in Chicago. The same ;) haha

I would freak out if I had any shopping left to do at this point. You’re brave! We were almost completely done the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and then only had to grab a few gift cards.

Great job surviving that run. I would open my door, see the snow, laugh and shut the door again. OK, well, probably not. I would just go to the gym and run on the treadmill like a boring person. I’m waaaaay too afraid of falling for that business.
