Treats of the week and a lower body workout!

by Christina @ The Athletarian on February 10, 2013

Happy Saturday!  Based on my last post, it looks like I have a few places to choose from in terms of my new residence.  I’m just going to pack my bags and get the adoption papers ready and then I’ll let you know what I decide! ;)  Really though, I am happy that those of you who got hit with a lot of snow are safe and sound.  It was not pretty here but the sun came out yesterday and started to melt some away so I hope that’s the last of it.

Remember how I said I was training my mom?  Well aside from that full-body workout we did last week, we also did one lower body focused workout and one upper body  focused workout.  Here is the lower body one we did:

lower body workout

I didn’t use heavy weights at all but still torched some crazy calories and my legs were shaking by the time we were done.  I’m thinking of adding some plyometrics into next week’s workouts and am a little afraid she might disown me.  Hah.

I’m done with talking about exercise.  Let’s talk FOOD.  So the plan was one treat meal a week.  For me that means  a meal PLUS dessert.  I don’t  mess around.  I was craving Cinnabon like crazy for about two weeks now so on the day of the snowstorm I risked my life and went to get one.  Trust me, the trip was sooooo worth it.  SO WORTH IT.

cinnabon

Just look at that beauty.  It was heavenly and I enjoyed every warm, sugar-laden bite.  Before the cinnamon bun though I thought I should get some “real” food in me so I went to a place called Sandwich Box and got a sandwich (duh) with avocado, roasted red peppers, arugula, some kind of jalepeno-infused cheese and sun dried tomato spread.

Fun fact: I hate side salads.  I love making my own big salads full of lots of amazing ingredients but I absolutely hate when restaurants give me spring mix with a squirt of whatever kind of boring dressing they have.  So I left it.

The sandwich wasn’t much of a cheat.  I eat those kinds of things on a normal basis (except for the cheese) but don’t worry, I made up for it yesterday.  I went to go see a doctor to get some orthotics and he is my new favourite person because he left a box of donuts in the waiting room.

Thanks, doc.  You’re going to fix my feet and feed me donuts?  I love you.

Time to get ready for my long run!  Please pray that the sidewalks aren’t icy so I don’t fall on my face.  I need this run to be better than last week’s.

Tell me something yummy you ate this weekend!

Do you have a long run today?  How far?

I was supposed to be doing a 5k race this morning but it was cancelled because the snowstorm is still going strong in Nova Scotia! I might wait until it’s a little less wild outside and try to do a long run outside, otherwise it will be the treadmill again.

Friday night we had the BEST meal – it was kind of inspired by your hummus pasta! I made chicken breast for boy (portobello mushroom for me) stuffed with quinoa, diced tomato, mushroom, spinach and roasted red pepper hummus, then topped with goat cheese and baked. It was GOOD.

Major yum to that sandwich! Surprisingly, I’m not a big fan of Cinnabon… I’m a huge fan of cinnamon and tend to have a heavy hand when shaking it on top of stuff and I’m a big fan of icing on cake/ cupcakes, but I’m not a fan of Cinnabon. They smell heavenly every time I pass the stand in the mall but never live up to my hopes :Z

Haha that is so weird!! Okay maybe we will never go for Cinnabon together but sandwiches – heck yes!! ;)

I agree with you: side salads are worthless. When I want a salad, I want people to say “So who are you sharing that with?” :O] Love the blog! Its nice to have a voice of reason, balance, and normality in the athlete blogasphere

Thanks so much Chris!!! I don’t know if I’m normal hahaha but I definitely have to have a balance when it comes to life!! Thank you for agreeing with me on the side salad situation. I was beginning to think I was a bit crazy!

Yesterday was my cheat day, and mid-afternoon we got a little hungry so we tore off pieces of a baguette and dipped it in olive oil. I had more pieces than I care to admit because it was so delicious. Carbs = happiness for me.

PS that Cinnabon looks amazing!! Super jealous! haha

My long run was quite short compared to yours, I did 10 k this morning. I’ve only been at it about 6 months tho, so maybe I can eventually work my way up to a long run like yours. :)
BTW, when you go out and run in the winter, do you have special shoes or something? I would imagine regular running shoes would get quite soggy with all the snow. Just curious.
Have a good one!

Way to go!! 10km is AMAZING!!

I actually just wear my usual Mizunos when I run outside! I try my best to be careful in slushy spots but yes, sometimes my feet get a bit wet!
