Booty Burner

by Christina @ The Athletarian on January 31, 2013

What.  A.  Week.  I have been off all week and it really hasn’t been as enjoyable as I expected.  When everyone else you know is working, being on “vacation” isn’t that fun.  My gym routine changed this week and I’ve been going a lot later (10am) since I don’t have to get it in before work.  I actually HATE going later because it is so much busier and it takes me a lot longer to get my workout in.

The other day I really didn’t feel like going for a gym workout (because I’m soooo busy this week at home and all;) so I did a home workout instead and I seriously kicked my own booty.  It’s been two days and I am still so sore.  It took me less than 40 minutes and I was a serious sweaty mess by the time I was done.

If you don’t have a treadmill at home, you can always do another form of cardio – run stairs, jumping jacks, jog on the spot, etc.  Anything that gets your heart rate up will work.  Oh, and TM sprints are 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off as fast as you can.  For my weighted squats I used my pink sandbag but you could always use free weights, bags of rice, cans, water jugs…whatever works!

Having access to a gym is great but this workout was proof that you don’t need fancy equipment to get a good burn.

Speaking of a good burn, today was week 3, day 3 of James Wilson’s program and it was such a great workout.  It was basically two exercises per body part (shoulders, back, chest, legs) with some burpees thrown in (because he is evil).  It was the first time in a loooong time that I did leg presses and I was happy with being able to get up to 150 pounds on my last set!

200lbs, here I come!!  …one day! ;)

I’m still embarrassed to flex hah.  I’ll leave that to Little B and Monika for now buuuut I think my shoulders are starting to come in a little bit.  Kind of.

I am excited for the next nine weeks of the program!  Now if I can just stop dipping my finger into the container of chocolate frosting that’s sitting in my fridge… :P

Do you own any home workout equipment?

What are you having for dinner tonight?  I need ideas!

I have been off for six months and I agree with you it was not as much fun as I thought bc everyone else was working. Your at home workout looks like a good one will have to try it out. I had three intense workouts this week with my trainer and can barely sit down today lol…

Being a single mom sometimes thats the only option I had was to work out at home so overtime I have acquired a treadmill, med ball, bosu, ball, kettlebells and free weights. I am contemplating getting rid of the dinner table to make space for a rower. lol

dinner tonight is taco salad…i have a feeling my husby is going to start shoving (extra) red meat down my throat because my OB told me today i have to take iron for these last 11 weeks of my pregnancy…yea nausea again! taco salad is okay with tofu, but my fav “vegetarian” dinner is blackbean-corn-greenchile enchiladas :)

Start enjoying that week! I am not a gym girl, so home workouts are all I do besides running. Minimal home equipment is a must – light dumbells, medicine ball are all that I have right now but I really want the “lumber equalizer” thing. I am pretty low impacat at home though – pilates mostly – to avoid aggrivating my itb. Laura Tarbell pilates for runners is the BEST, in the case that you are interested :)

I only have a set of 5 lb dumbbells at home, and since I’m off from running because of my knee, I pretty much have to go to the gym to get in a decent workout!

For dinner tonight I’m having a leftover BBQ chickpea burger from Oh She Glows – they’re really good!

I am in week 4- let me tell you he steps it up a notch!!

At home I have lots of dumbbells, but that’s about it. I’m lucky that my gym is .025 seconds away so I actually don’t use them that much- esp since I’ve started James’ program and so many of the moves require actual equipment.

I am making blackened tilapia with roasted broccoli and okra! Yum!!

I love feeling like I don’t have to go to the gym to get a good workout. I have dumbbells at home, and I can usually get a good strength circuit in with just those and bodyweight!

Looking good girlie! I own a pull up bar and TRX and LOVE them both…they don’t take up much room and are both really great workout tools…
P.S. -> guess what???
TODAY IS CAST OFF DAY!

You look freaking fantastic and I completely agree that not being in a “normal routine” totally throws off my workouts. I LOVE vacations but also love coming back to my routine…..sad but true! Have a fantastic weekend my awesomely fit friend.

There’s a gym in my apartment building so I don’t keep anything at home really. I do have my own jump rope though because it’s so much better when you have one that’s just the right size for you!
