It was a lot different from what I normally talk about (running, lifting weights, and injuring myself hah) but I am so happy that I put it out there and that so many of you could relate! So remember back in October when I went to NYC but couldn’t really say what I was doing there? I can finally tell you what went down on that trip!! Most (if not all) of you know Electra, who blogs over at Vanilla Bean Lean. Well, her and I have become amazing friends ever since we met through blogging over a year and a half ago. She lives in Chicago and I live in Toronto, yet we make our friendship work as if there is no border between us.
Electra texted me in the fall telling me that she was nominating me as her fitness hero in hopes that we would win a contest hosted by PopSugar and Reebok. To enter, she had to create a board on Pinterest titled “My Fit Pinspiration” and include pictures of things and people who inspired her, including one real-life fitness hero (ME!). First off, I was stoked to even hear that I inspired her. This girl is a fitness BUFF and scrawny little me had an impact on her. WOW.

So she created her board, submitted it to PopSugar, and whattayaknow????? WE WON (along with two other pairs of girls)!!!!! We got a girls weekend in NYC, $1000 each to spend at the Reebok store on 5th Avenue, a Crossfit lesson/class at the Reebok Fit Hub (attached to the store on Fifth Avenue), AND we were filmed to be in a Reebok campaign (which was just posted on the PopSugar site yesterday so that’s why we can now share with you!). The filming was the coolest part. They had Electra and I stay at different hotels so that we wouldn’t bump into each other because they wanted to film us meeting for the first time in Central Park. It was actually one of the best experiences of my life, to be honest with you. Take a look at the video (it’s short, promise!) and try not to cry because I’m pretty sure I had tears in my eyes every single time I watched it last night.
I love that girl so much. I am so blessed to be able to call her my friend.
So that’s why Electra and I were in NYC at the same time and accidentally “bumped” into each other! I will share some photos from the trip as well but I wanted the focus of this post to be the video because it’s so amazing.

I loved your video, it brought a tear to my eye too.
I never really had anyone who inspired me when I got into fitness. But in the last year we hired an assistant for me at work and my boss was really excited about her starting because we had so many common interests. He thought it would be a great fit for us to work together. While getting to know my new assistant RaeLyn, I learned that she is an experienced rock climber and won second place in a regional Figure Body Building competition. She’s taken a ton of fitness certification courses like me and also has worked at suppliment and health food stores, so I’ve been able to learn a lot from her.
This last summer she competed in another regional Figure competition and won first place for Figure Short and First place over all. That’s when she inspired me to step up my fitness regime. I used to eat whatever I wanted and used fitness as a way to maintain my weight. But since she has won and is now training for provincials, I am not watching what I eat and taking my fitness routine more seriously. I hope one day to be up on that stage with her.
