Sunday was an amazing day. I recently posted about how I somehow got talked into signing up for the Tough Mudder this August in Toronto. A certain someone named Quinton (you may remember him – he used to blog over at Q on the move) did a really good job at convincing me that I have enough time to turn into a superhero before the big event. Well after almost a year of keeping in contact through email, I got to finally meet Quinton on Sunday! Yes, I went to meet up with a man I met online.
A bunch of people from our Tough Mudder team (Dean included) all headed over to a fitness event called GameChanger. It is a fitness challenge where you break up into teams of three and do a ridiculous set of exercises for 45 minutes (45 seconds work, 15 seconds “active rest”). What they called active rest wasn’t normal though. Since when are plyometric pushups considered “REST”?! Bananas if you ask me. Each team had a “coach” who took note of reps and made sure you weren’t cheating. The team with the most reps by the end of the workout won. Pretty fun, huh?
Since our Tough Mudder team name is called “Animal Print Pants Outta Control”, Quinton kept with the animal theme and we broke into three teams of three (Dean and Quinton were my teammates), all different animal print pants. We got the fiercest name, “Duck Bill Palatypus Print Pants Outta Control”. A duck bill palatypus doesn’t even have a print. Moving on…
Within the first five minutes we were toast. The exercises were so ridiculous. Sweat was dripping everywhere and even though I had breakfast about four hours before, I felt it almost come up a few times. It was a lot of jumping (high knees, frog jumps, squat jumps, switch lunges…), a lot of burpees, and an infinite number of pushups. Normal tabata is 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. This was 45 seconds on. 45 FREAKING SECONDS (with basically no rest unless pushups are equivalent to sleeping for you). And we did this straight for 45 MINUTES.
It’s been two days and every muscle in my body still aches. I want to do it again.
If you live in the GTA and are interested, you can check out GameChanger on Facebook for more information. It ia a free event (with donations accepted for Right to Play if you wish to contribute).
Weird question: have you ever met up with anyone you met online?
How many pushups can you do? I can’t do too many so I wasn’t good at the “active rest” portion of this workout.
